Take A Hike with Edrina Martinez through a world of balmy pastel beaches, waterfalls in slow motion, and laid-back lounges under palm trees. Her fourth LP since joining Alpha Pup in 2013, Take A Hike evokes an encompassing sense of place with free-spirited rhythms and a psych-dusted guitar. From velvety dance beats to mellow sonic wanderings, Astronautica plunges into a new lucid dream with every track.
Begin on the upbeat with “Valle,” a daydream with sandy feet and feel-good vibes rippling outward like a heat mirage. “Carbo Noir” is smooth and tan, a smile-inducing undulation with a soul of melting sherbet. The groove shakes down in “Keylime” and shifts its mood with a satisfying sway, while feathery vocals in “Counter Offer” feel like silk sheets floating in the breeze. “Echo Mountain” is a loopy haze, and “Ghost Town” gives us a shadowy mystery with guitar strings that stretch into the horizon.
